Saturday after yoga and pastries, with a half a latte remaining between us, the talk turned to politics.
I was reminded that even though we at the table shared many values, we did not fit in a tidy box.
No one fits well in a box.
And yet, perhaps because of Bed Bath and Beyond, we adorable Americans lump and squish and label our compatriots - our in-laws and out-laws into categories that read:
Us.
Them.
You do this too, I’ll wager, and that’s just fine. It’s a place to start, to find your footing, and then it’s a place to unpack. Perhaps literally.
Which is what we did, we brainy lady folks, each an unlikely blend of the places we’ve been. We could have skipped over the good part, sipped and sauntered off into Saturday, but instead we unboxed.
